Terms of service
Last updated: 22 September 2026
By using the Swimmable website, widget or API (the “Services”) you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1. What Swimmable is
Swimmable summarises public weather, marine and water-quality data for swim spots into readings and a Swim Score out of 10. It is information, not advice.
2. Not a safety guarantee
Conditions change fast and our data can be delayed, incomplete or wrong. A score is a summary of public data, not a statement that a place is safe. Always use your own judgement, follow lifeguards, flags and posted signs, and check local advisories. We are not liable for decisions made based on the Services.
3. Using the API
You may use the API to build applications that inform swimmers, including commercial ones under the plan you agree with us. You may not:
- exceed your rate limits, or share or resell your API keys;
- use the Services for anything unlawful or harmful;
- present Swimmable data as a safety guarantee, or remove source attributions and the widget's credit link.
You are responsible for keeping your keys confidential and for activity under your account.
4. Data from others
Much of the data comes from third parties under their own licences (for example the European Environment Agency under CC BY 4.0 and U.S. government works in the public domain). Keep their attributions when you reuse it. See data sources.
5. Availability
We aim for high availability but cannot promise uninterrupted service or that every source is always reachable.
6. Intellectual property
Swimmable keeps its rights in the Services, the scoring method, the brand and the site content. You keep the rights in your own applications.
7. Liability
To the extent the law allows, Swimmable is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or lost profits or data, arising from use of the Services.
8. Ending use
Either side may stop at any time. We may suspend access for a breach of these terms.
9. Changes
We may update these terms and will change the date above. Continuing to use the Services means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association.
